The Purvanchal Academy of Sciences, a registered body under the Govt. Act No. 21, 1860, was incepted on 19th February 1989 with registration no. 325/90 – 91 at the premises of T. D. Postgraduate College Jaunpur with the aim to promote the disciplines of science among the students and budding scientists of Purvanchal Region. It assimilates Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Agriculture, Psychology and Engineering Sciences for the flow of knowledge and to inculcate the scientific temperament in the institutions.
The first conference of the academy was held under the President-ship of Prof. D. N. Tondon on 21 – 22 October 1989 at T. D. P.G. College, Jaunpur in which 45 scientists took part and 59 papers were presented in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany disciplines. From this modest beginning of first annual session, now the academy has grown into a strong fraternity with 312 life members and papers communicated for presentation in different sections of two-days academic sessions. The academy has published 22 volumes of the periodicals, named Journal Purvanchal Academy of Sciences, 3 volumes of proceedings and 12 abstracts volumes of each conference.
Our dream is to enhance the cause of science and Technology in all its forms, viz., by dissemination of scientific research through the publication of Journals/Proceedings/ Transactions etc., further to recognize the blessings and contributions of the elite scientists who have helped the society by their academic excellence and promising researches. To have its own academic campus equipped with library. To take up the research programme as per need of national interests.
The academy is trying to spread the message of science far and wide throughout the nation. Science popularization and creating science awareness has always been the emphasis of the PAS Academy. It has been seen that more social respectability and monetary benefit still do not give great personage to those who “do science” in comparison to those who “use science”. “Using science” only fulfills the short term aspiration of the individuals while “doing science” open up new vistas of national development and glory.
