Strictly, the name refers to the water palace built here in 1946 by the Raja of Karangasem.

West Bali National Park and Menjangan Island (B,L) Several hours journey from the north to this region provides an insight into the quiet and stunningly beautiful collection of timeless villages that appear to have given scant thought to tourism. Other than West Bali National Park, famous for its Menjangan island, the west Bali offers quiet beaches with calm seas, excellent for diving and snorkeling on the north side and wilder seas, renowned surfing spots on the south side. Menjangan Island is located 5 miles to the north-west of Bali. "Menjangan" in Indonesian means "Deer". The name was given by the local population observing wild deer herds swimming to the island every spring and covering a distance of approx 1.2 miles. As a part of Bali Barat National Park, Menjangan Island is well known for its magnificent underwater world. With deep coral reef walls, and a wreck known as ‘Anker’, it is the one of Bali’s best diving and snorkeling sites. With good water conditions and excellent visibility, Menjangan Island and nearby Labuan Lalang are excellent for snorkeling. Fishing around the island is another worthwhile activity.
Day 6
Ubud and elephant safari (B) Ubud is the center of art and culture of Bali. This is the best place to shop for wood carving (or Balinese painting). Visit Sukawati market early in the morning. Goa Gajah temple (Elephant cave) will be your next destination. This cave is a relief of various menacing creatures and demons carved right into the rock at the cave entrance. The primary figure was once thought to be an elephant, hence the nickname Elephant Cave. The driver will then take you to visit Ubud monkey forest where you will walk amongst 340 free roaming Balinese long-tailed macaque troops. You will finish the day by visiting Ubud's elephant safari park where you will experience the elephant ride under the stars followed by a wonderful dinner.

Uluwatu temple is one of the Sad Kyhayangan (six most important temples in Bali). It is dedicated to Rudra, the God of the storm, the wind, and the hunt. Built by a priest from Java in A.D. 1546, the temple is considered one of most sacred sites on the island. You will arrive just before the sunset to walk around and soak in the view. Here you will also meet the free roaming monkeys. Perched right on the edge of the cliff was the magical Temple. At 6pm, just before the sun went down, the Kecak fire Dance is performed. More than 20 men entered the stage and started chanting in harmony; Cak..Cak..Cakcakcak! As the sun started to reach the horizon, Hanuman (the hero) was captured and tied by Rahwana’s army and put in the middle of the circle of fire. This is a marvelous performance that excited your mind, body and soul. Enjoy BBQ Balinese dinner at Jimbaran beach.
